Patient Background
Wrist Finger Pain and Stiffness were successfully treated using Master Tung’s Acupuncture in this case of a 73-year-old woman who suffered from pain and limited motion in both hands, with incomplete flexion of the left second finger.
Before the onset of Wrist Finger Pain and Stiffness, she had experienced several months of chronic coughing and upper back pain. Initially, the pain was attributed to the coughing, but a CT scan later revealed a spinal infection.
It is now suspected that following this bacterial infection, an autoimmune condition may have developed. She was hospitalized and treated with intravenous antibiotics for several weeks and referred for blood tests to confirm the diagnosis and determine whether a rheumatologic disorder is present.
Master Tung’s Acupuncture was chosen for its effectiveness in treating Wrist Finger Pain and Stiffness, particularly in complex post-infectious and autoimmune-related cases. The treatment focused on restoring mobility and relieving tension through precise point selection guided by VAS testing.
The patient also presented with lactose intolerance, and since eliminating lactose she reported significant improvement in her chronic cough. Scarring was observed in the lungs, and she continues to experience marked fatigue.
This clinical case demonstrates the potential of Master Tung’s Acupuncture in resolving Wrist Finger Pain and Stiffness and improving overall hand function.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Palm diagnosis indicated weakness in the Kidney and Lung areas.
Throughout the treatment, both organs were tonified using:
- 88.17–19 Si Ma
- 88.09–11 San Tong Shen
Follow-up and Progress
In the second treatment, the patient reported that her blood tests were normal.
Additional points were used:
- 66.01, indicated for pain in the index finger (needled on the affected side)
- 77.08 Si Hua Shang, 77.09 Si Hua Zhong, and 66.05 Men Jin — all needled on the opposite side; these points are effective for pain and stiffness in the fingers.
In the fourth treatment, bloodletting was performed on the left second finger at the metacarpophalangeal joint.
The location was determined using VAS testing. Initially, positive VAS was found on both sides of the joint and at the palmar center. After several treatments, the VAS localized only at the palmar center, corresponding to the SI Feng area.
After the fourth session, the patient reported significant improvement in stiffness of both hands, though there remained limited movement in the left second finger.
Treatment continued for four more sessions, with gradual improvement.
By the sixth treatment, there was a noticeable increase in range of motion, and after a three-week break, she returned for another session showing complete restoration of finger movement.
Throughout all treatments, VAS testing guided point selection, ensuring that each session was tailored to the patient’s response. From the fifth session onward, Tu Chang was also added to support the therapeutic outcome.
After eight sessions in total, the patient regained full mobility in the affected finger and reported complete relief of stiffness in both hands.
This case clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of Master Tung’s Acupuncture in treating Wrist Finger Pain and Stiffness, showing how VAS-guided point selection can help restore natural movement and relieve pain even in complex post-infectious or autoimmune-related cases.
